Taylor Anounces his next Destroyermen Book 11 Title

Post by Pokermind on Thu Oct 15, 2015 2:47 am

Taylor wrote on his blog, and Facebook page:

BLOOD IN THE WATER is coming!

We're pleased to announce that Book 11, "Blood in the Water" will be released on June 14, 2016!

Here's the cover blurb:

Taylor Anderson’s enthralling New York Times bestselling series of alternate history continues as game-changing revelations upend the Grand Alliance in a potentially cataclysmic war.

Ever since the USS Walker came from another world war to defy the terrifying Grik and diabolical Dominion, Matt Reddy and his crew have given their all to protect the oppressed Lemurians. But with the Walker in desperate need of repairs just as the Grik’s First General is poised to strike, Reddy is desperate.

With more enemies than ever before arrayed against them, the crew of the Walker needs new allies. That means combing the lethal wilds of Madagascar to find the Lemurians’ fabled ancestors, as well as the enigmatic dwellers east of the Pass of Fire. But what Reddy’s crew unearths may be more than they can handle—discoveries so shattering they could tilt the balance of the war in either direction.

But Reddy’s greatest adversary is from his past: a madman named Kurokawa whose single-minded mission of revenge will shake the Alliance to its core and raise the stakes to the most personal and terrifying levels Reddy has ever faced.

I'm VERY excited to be able to share this news so soon this time!

Great!!!

Hm. Now, what could Kurokawa do to "shake the Alliance" and "make it personal"?

Take out or badly hurt the fleet bringing the troops from India, Losing General Alden or Rolak would be personal, perhaps losing one of the clones the one with those from Mahan on it would be personal too. Loss of part or all of the India force would make things dicey for those holding India.

Hm, but i doubt that would be considered "personal". Up until now, Kurokawa was pretty carefull by not diong anything that may actually be considered as outright war crimes. Did the "personal" mean, that he would abandon this policy?

Personal means something that directly emotionally effects characters loss of friends makes hate of ememy personal rather than just 'the enemy' to the characters. Check out both Discuss and Tech on Taylor's blogs Matthieu and I have discussed the 'book blurb' in discuss, and I point out the tracer questions point to stuff in the book after Blood in the Water that Taylor is currently writing.

The sinking Nerracca in Crusade crammed with refugees might be considered a war crime.

Hm. I initially thought that "personal" means, that Kurokawa go to some things like assasination, or hostages, or something like that.

The sinking Nerracca in Crusade crammed with refugees might be considered a war crime.

Might be - if they would be able to prove that Kurokawa knew, that the ship was refugee transport, and if all formalites were fulfilled. And they weren't.  "Nerracca" was armed, she hasn't carrying any red cross symbolic, and she sailed under armed escort. On Earth, she would be an allowed target for any attack.

The noncombatant ships, under the provisions that worked during World War II must be:

- Unarmed
- Have a Red Cross symbols on their boards
- Must sail without armed escorts
- Mustn't have any camouflage

The "Nerracca" did not meet any of this requirements at all. So, under the Earth-based international agreements, she was a valid target for attack.

Kurokawa was informed it was a refugee ship and then ordered the continued pounding of her. We don't know if Sato Okada told this to the Alliance, but if he did it's evidence of a war crime. Not that I expect Kurokawa to surrender any way.

He may be informed, but he have no legal reason to believe the enemy. So, by the formal therms - it wasn't a war crime. That's the problem with definition.

The refugee carrying status of the ship was pointed out by Okada to Kurokawa not by the enemy. Nerracca was armed, in consort with another armed ship so might not meet the letter of a war crime, but then war crimes are defined by the victor.

And from where Okada could knew that? The problem is, that there WAS established rules about that things, that defined this kind of situation.

Nerracca was armed, in consort with another armed ship so might not meet the letter of a war crime, but then war crimes are defined by the victor.

The letter is the exact problem.
